Outdoor First Aid

Cookson First Aid can now provide Outdoor First Aid

Emergency Outdoor First Aid (One day – 8 hours of training)
Outdoor First Aid (two days – 16 hours of training)

To complete this course you must meet the following criteria

– Age 14 +
– Physically Able
– Sufficient Command of English Language (Level 2 Literacy)

Unit 1 Overview

  • Understand Roles & Responsibilities of a first aider in the outdoor environment
  • Conduct a Scene Survey
  • Perform a Primary Survey
  • Protect a Casualty from Environmental Factors & Manage Hypothermia
  • Manage an Unconscious Casualty
  • Manage a non-breathing Casualty (CPR & AED)
  • Manage a Choking Casualty
  • Manage External Bleeding including Catastrophic Haemorrhage
  • Manage a Casualty following Water Immersion
  • Outdoor and Remote Considerations & Protocols

Unit 2 Overview

  • Perform Secondary Survey
  • Management of Injuries to Bone, Muscles & Joints
  • Managements of Major Injuries
  • Management of Burns & Scalds
  • Management of Eye Injuries
  • Management of Bites & Stings
  • Management of Anaphylaxis
  • Management of Major Illnesses
  • Management of the Effects of Heat & Cold
