Schools and Colleges
We believe children of all ages should know how to save a life.
Cookson First Aid has now trained over 9,000 students to be lifesavers for FREE, and we want to work with your school.
We provide in person, practical training for students, with an assembly style lesson for Reception to Year 4 and hands on CPR and defibrillator training for Year 5 – Year 13. All of our student training is taught in line with the national curriculum and OFSTED requirements, providing enrichment for students, and a skill they can have for life.
Cookson First Aid will provide a half day of training (morning or afternoon), including up to four first aid or mental health training courses for an upfront payment of £299, which can be fully claimed back against accredited training for teachers and staff. This can be used for a Basic Life Saving Course (£299) for up to 20 staff or against accredited training, such as Emergency or Paediatric First Aid at Work (from £99 per person).
All of the income generated from our accredited training is directly invested into our free first aid training, which will enable us to train even more young people for free.
For 16 – 18 year old students we can provide match funding (valued at £80 per student) on accredited training to support applications for further education or work opportunities. Level 3 Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) courses are recognised by UCAS. Students can claim 8 tariff points for successfully completing this 7 hour training course.
To support teachers and school staff, we can provide a range of accredited courses on First Aid at Work, Paediatric First Aid, Safeguarding & Mental Health training. Further to this we can offer blended, online and practical training options to provide flexibility around teaching time.

Schools training FAQ’s
Why is there an upfront cost for student training?
As a non-profit organisation, working in partnership with Oliver Cookson Foundation, all of the income generated from our training is directly invested into our free first aid training,
Choosing us for your accredited first aid training helps us to provide even more training, so the cost is fully redeemable against booking training for staff and teachers and student training is always free.
Please note there is no upfront fee for special educational schools.
What does the initial £299 cost include?
Cookson First Aid will provide a half day of training (morning or afternoon), including up to four sessions of emergency first aid, mental health awareness or stop the bleed training.
We will also share a lesson plan template to complete as a follow up lesson to the practical training and we provide a certificate template for students.
How do I redeem my initial £299 payment?
Once we have completed the initial half day of training, your school can book a basic life saving course for up to 20 staff. Alternatively, you can redeem this amount against booking accredited training for teachers or staff, prices start from £99 per person.

You have up to three years from the initial booking date to redeem the cost.
Can I book more than once?

How do I access match funding for accredited training for students?
Cookson First Aid will offer up to 50% of the cost of accredited training for students – a usual cost of £159. The additional cost can be met by the school, parents, or through grant funding or sponsorship through businesses. Get in touch with us to discuss options for match funding.

Our work with schools
‘Cookson First Aid conducted two days of basic life saving with our KS2 children. The sessions were absolutely incredible and the children were so enthused and have continued to talk about the sessions in great detail in subsequent days. I could not have been more impressed by the knowledge, patience, clarity and kindness of those who came in to lead the sessions – they were pitched so perfectly as an introduction.
We very much look forward to welcoming Cookson First Aid in again! With thanks from all at Medlock Primary’.
